"Come Play with Science!"

The Science Docent Program was created 11 years ago by parents and teachers who wanted to enhance our classroom science curriculum with hands-on, play-oriented activities and experiments that get kids excited about various science topics. The focus of the program is to convey to our kids that science is fun and relates to all areas of study and life. Based on our kids’ reactions to the lessons each month, we’ve succeeded!

The program is completely volunteer-staffed and is funded by Maidu/Excelsior PTC through donations from parents every year. Nearly 50 volunteers, working at different levels of involvement, participated in the Science Docent program last year.

Read the Program Goal and Participant Responsibilities document to learn more about the Science Docent volunteer opportunities, which include Head Science Docent, Grade-Level Science Docent Coordinators, Classroom Science Docents, Classroom Science Docent Assistants, and Teachers. Please contact us to learn how you can help! See the Programs and Contacts page for Open positions and contact information for coordinators.
